UNDERSTANDING MENOPAUSE

What's actually happening?

Menopause usually arrives between 45 and 55, as the ovaries produce less oestrogen and progesterone. That drop doesn’t just affect your periods. It can reach into sleep, mood, skin, joints, memory, energy and libido, often long before you connect the dots.

As a private menopause specialist in London, and someone who has navigated perimenopause herself, Dr Katy Kasraie treats menopause as a medical transition worth taking seriously, not a phase to push through quietly. Her approach at the Harley Street clinic pairs current HRT protocols with lifestyle guidance and ongoing monitoring, because what works for one patient rarely works identically for the next.

WHO IT'S FOR

Does this sound like you?

This consultation is likely a good fit if you:

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms rarely arrive as a tidy list

Rarely all at once, but usually recognisable.

Symptoms tend to cluster into a few families, and once the pattern is visible, things that felt random for months often click into place.

Hot flushes & night sweats

Sudden heat, flushing, or waking drenched, day or night.

Irregular periods

Shorter, longer, heavier, lighter. The old pattern stops applying.

Joint & muscle aches

New stiffness or soreness, often worst first thing in the morning.

Headaches

Migraines or headaches that track suspiciously closely with hormone dips.

Palpitations

A heart that flutters or races for no obvious reason.

Fatigue

A heaviness that sleep alone doesn't seem to fix.

Weight changes

Shifts around the middle, even when little else has changed.

Skin & hair changes

Drier skin, thinning hair, or a new sensitivity to familiar products.

If something feels off, that’s reason enough to raise it. It doesn’t need to fit a textbook first.

HOW WE HELP

Our approach to menopause treatment in London

Dr Kasraie builds each plan from a thorough starting assessment, then adjusts it as your body and needs change, all from her private clinic on Harley Street.

01

Comprehensive initial consultation

A detailed exploration of your symptoms, medical history and goals. Typically 45–60 minutes, far longer than a standard NHS appointment.

02

Personalised HRT prescription

Treatment tailored to your hormonal profile, lifestyle and preferences. Transdermal oestrogen and body-identical progesterone are prescribed where suitable, not as a one-size-fits-all protocol.

03

Lifestyle & nutritional guidance

Evidence-based recommendations on diet, exercise and sleep that work alongside medical treatment.

04

Regular reviews & monitoring

Ongoing follow-up to adjust your plan as your body changes over time.

Treatment Options

Treatment options at our Harley Street menopause clinic

What’s right for one patient isn’t automatically right for the next. Options are discussed openly, based on your symptoms, history and personal comfort level.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Still the most effective option for many women dealing with flushes, sweats and disrupted sleep. Where suitable, transdermal oestrogen and body-identical progesterone are prescribed, dosed specifically to you. As a registered BMS menopause specialist, Dr Kasraie prescribes in line with the latest clinical evidence.

Non-hormonal support

For patients who can't, or would rather not, take HRT, there are genuinely effective non-hormonal and lifestyle-based options for sleep, anxiety, low mood and hot flushes.

Vaginal & Bladder Health

Often under-discussed, but very treatable. Local treatments safely relieve dryness, discomfort, painful sex and urinary symptoms linked to declining oestrogen, even with long- term use.

BEYOND MENOPAUSE

Midlife health & long-term wellbeing

Menopause is also a useful checkpoint, a moment to look after the health that matters most over the following decades. Consultations at the London clinic often cover:

Cardiovascular health

Bone density & osteoporosis risk

Metabolic health & weight

Muscle strength & resilience

Cognitive wellbeing

About

About Dr Katy Kasraie, Menopause Specialist on Harley Street

Dr Katy Kasraie is a Family Medicine Physician/Private GP and menopause specialist on Harley Street with 20 years’ clinical experience across the UK, US and Ireland. She completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of California, San Diego, earned her medical degree at Trinity College Dublin, and trained as a GP on the Ipswich Hospital and St George’s Hospital GP training schemes, gaining Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).

She also understands this from the inside. Like many of her patients, she has been through perimenopause herself, which is why her consultations feel less like a lecture and more like a conversation with someone who genuinely gets it. Patients return to her for the same reason: she takes the time to properly explain what’s happening, and why, not just what to take.

  • Board-certified Family Medicine Physician (GP) in the UK
  • Member, Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP)
  • Postgraduate Training in Clinical Dermatology
  • Menopause Specialist, British Menopause Society

FAQ

Questions patients ask most about menopause treatment

Is HRT actually safe?

For most women, yes, when it’s prescribed properly, after a real look at individual risk factors. It’s rarely a blanket yes or no; it depends on the patient. Dr Kasraie carries out a thorough risk assessment before recommending any treatment.

Most patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks, with the fuller effect settling in by around three months. Progress is reviewed as treatment continues.

Not usually. Menopause is generally diagnosed from symptoms and age. Blood tests come into play for specific situations, such as earlier onset or an unclear picture.

Yes, and it should. Reviews are built into the care plan, so it evolves as your symptoms and circumstances do.

No. The fee covers the assessment and plan. Any prescriptions or tests are quoted clearly and separately, so there are no surprises.

Yes. Perimenopause is assessed and treated in its own right, so you don’t need to have reached menopause to benefit from expert support.

No referral is needed. Appointments can be booked directly at the Harley Street clinic, online or by phone.
